Pi Network Rolls Out Node v0.5.4 with AI Training Pilot Highlights
Pi Network has rolled out Pi Node version 0.5.4, marking a significant step forward in the network’s technical evolution. Renamed Pi Desktop to reflect its expanded functionality, the update brings performance enhancements, refined reward calculations, and an improved user experience for Node operators.
Unified Interface and Technical Improvements
The latest release consolidates access to the Node, mining app, and Pi App Studio into a single, streamlined interface. Key improvements include fixes for community-reported Node mining reward issues, automatic updates, and block container creation errors. A new open port verification system has been introduced to ensure more accurate Node bonus calculations.
Additionally, Pi Desktop now supports approved external links, allowing users to access blogs and resources directly from the mining app and App Studio. Display issues in Pi App Studio—where deployed apps were not showing previews correctly—have also been resolved, further enhancing usability.
The release builds on the OpenMind pilot project, which demonstrated the network’s potential for decentralized AI training. OpenMind reported participation from over 350,000 active nodes in proof-of-concept workloads, signaling Pi Network’s growing focus on real-world blockchain applications.
Network Activity and Developer Sentiment
Despite technical progress, Pi Network’s mainnet activity remains low. Current data shows just 296 active mainnet nodes and three validators, raising concerns about adoption. Developer confidence has also been tested following the announcement that WorkforcePool, the first Pi Network Hackathon winner, is up for sale due to high operational costs and slow progress.
Market Pressure
Meanwhile, Pi Coin’s price has faced downward pressure, dropping nearly 10% over the past week. After a brief surge in late October, the token has struggled to maintain momentum, adding to the network’s current challenges.
While Pi Network continues to expand its technical capabilities, the gap between innovation and mainnet adoption underscores the hurdles ahead for this blockchain ecosystem.
