PayPal Continues Crypto Expansion With Innovative P2P Money Transfer Tool

PayPal, the American multinational financial technology company, has unveiled a new peer-to-peer (P2P) feature called “Links”, designed to make money transfers as simple as sharing a one-time link. Users can now drop the link into any conversation—be it a text message, direct message, or chat—enabling instant transfers with minimal friction.

Crypto Integration Front and Center

In a press release, PayPal emphasized that its digital assets will be integrated into the new P2P flow. Supported cryptocurrencies will include Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and PayPal USD (PYUSD), PayPal’s regulated stablecoin with a current market capitalization of approximately $1.3 billion, according to CoinGecko.

Initial Launch in the U.S., Global Expansion Planned

The “Links” feature will first be available to users in the United States, with plans to expand to other countries in the near future. This initiative follows PayPal World, the global platform introduced in July, which connects various payment systems to facilitate seamless cross-border commerce.

A Look at PayPal’s Crypto Journey

PayPal entered the crypto market initially to allow users to buy, hold, and sell Bitcoin and select altcoins. Its crypto services began in the U.S. before expanding internationally. In 2021, the company launched “Checkout with Crypto”, allowing merchants to accept cryptocurrency payments, and integrated crypto functionality into the Venmo app. By 2022, PayPal enabled crypto transfers to external wallets, and in 2023, it rolled out PYUSD, its highly regulated stablecoin, further cementing its role in the digital asset ecosystem.
