Ethereum Outperforms Bitcoin as Whale Accumulation Surges

Ethereum’s recent market performance is gaining attention as large holders (whales) continue to increase their ETH positions. According to data from Santiment, wallets holding 1,000 to 100,000 ETH have grown their holdings by 14% over the past five months, coinciding with Ethereum’s 132% price increase, significantly outperforming Bitcoin’s 34%over the same period.

At the time of writing, Ethereum is trading at $4,422, up 0.9% in the past 24 hours, as per CoinGecko.

“Whale portfolio rebalancing from BTC into ETH is fueling Ethereum’s momentum,” said Ryan Lee, chief analyst at Bitget, adding that growing interest in Ethereum’s ecosystem and ETF prospects is also driving accumulation.

Institutional Capital Flows Strengthen ETH Fundamentals

Ethereum has seen $9.9 billion in netflows on-chain in the last three months and $6.7 billion in stablecoin inflows in just the past week, according to Artemis and Token Terminal, respectively. Experts note this signals strong investor confidence in Ethereum’s DeFi activity and overall network strength.

“Ethereum is the natural go-to blockchain for institutional use,” said Zilliqa CEO Alexander Zahnd, citing its maturity and security.

ETF Demand Supports Long-Term Sentiment

Ethereum ETFs have seen inflows of $3.87 billion in August and $1.08 billion last week, in contrast to Bitcoin’s ETF outflows. However, recent outflows over the past three days highlight short-term uncertainty tied to macroeconomic pressures.

Still, optimism remains high. On September 2Ether Machine raised $654 million, following $800 million in previous financing, led by co-founder Andrew Keys.
