Plai Labs, a startup founded by Chris DeWolfe and Aber Whitcomb, founders of the social media platform MySpace and gaming studio Jam City, has raised $32 million in a seed round led by a16z, a venture capital firm.

Plai Labs’ $32 million debut is, of course, due to the past success of the founding team. The founding team consists of the founders of MySpace, which has more than 30 million monthly users, and the successful game studio Jam City. The new venture focuses on building social platforms that combine Web3 and Artificial Intelligence.
The investments raised in the seed round will be used to grow the Plai Labs team and build a decentralized social platform combining Web3 and artificial intelligence. The platform also plans to develop entertainment, social engagement, and digital ownership solutions to remove barriers to entry for new Web3 users. Aber Whitcomb, CEO, and co-founder of Plai Labs said:

If there’s one thing we learned while starting Myspace and building games that get downloaded in the billions at Jam City it’s this: The experience needs to be fun and approachable to reach a broad audience of users. Imagine being able to use your AI-based profile and putting it in any situation, like a piece of art. That has implications for games and the metaverse, inside Champions and also some other social platforms that we’re interested in developing down the road.”

Plai Labs is a next-generation social platform leveraging artificial intelligence and Web3. The platform’s first product is Champions Ascension, a multiplayer MMORPG game where players can withdraw NFT characters, go on quests, trade items, and battle. No detailed information about the game has been released, but it is claimed that artificial intelligence technology will be vital in the game.
