Interview with Istanbul Blockchain Woman Community

From Their Own Words: The mission of the community is to organize social responsibility projects that will provide positive discrimination to women in terms of technology and blockchain, and increase women’s presence in the IT sector in order to ensure that women are more involved in the production economy.  According to the report published on March 7, 2017 by Turkstat, women constitute 49.8% of Turkey’s population. At the meeting, the numbers that corresponds to the half of the society can not be ignored and that certain sectors or duties should be prevented from being regarded as men’s work, and actions to be taken in this regard were discussed.  Again, as noted in the same report, it is stated that the employment rate of women in Turkey, is lower than half of the men’s employment rate. Considering these figures, we think that the development of women should be encouraged and supported in many sectors and fields; and we announce that we are very ready to do our part in technology and blockchain related areas. As highlighted in the 5th of the Sustainable Development Goals “Gender Equality”, it has been proved many times that empowering women and girls creates a multiplier effect and accelerates economic growth and development in all areas. In order to serve this goal, we positioned ourselves as a completely non-profit organization in order to increase the presence of women in the blockchain ecosystem and raise awareness.
