The Argentine airline became the first airline to sell NFT tickets to its customers. Although we have seen various crypto payments enter our lives so far, the sale of NFT tickets in the airline sector is a first in the crypto industry.

The company announced the world’s first NFT air ticketing initiative on its official website under the name Ticket 3.0. The new initiative is already available for domestic flights in the country. The announced Ticket 3.0 NFT airline tickets aim to eliminate the problems that users experience in purchasing traditional tickets. Flybondi CEO Mauricio Sana said:

“With Ticket 3.0, our passengers will have greater flexibility and control over their trips because they will be able to transfer, rename or give away their tickets in a simple and autonomous way.

With this launch, we seek to generate a positive impact in the aviation industry through innovation and the application of blockchain technology. Changing the rules of the game is never easy, but we know that it is our objective to evolve and offer our passengers a new stage of the freedom to fly.”

About Ticket 3.0

Ticket 3.0 NFTs work similarly to a traditional airline ticket purchase system but with several major differences. Users receive tangible tickets by a specific name, and the tickets received cannot be changed or exchanged. The company’s new initiative, Ticket 3.0, allows users to change the name, exchange, or transfer the ticket to someone else, unlike traditional tickets, which are only available to buyers.

The company’s new initiative is backed by TravelX, an airline solution company. TravelX has invested $7 million in the company’s Ticket 3.0 initiative.

Crypto’s Entry into the Airline Industry

So far, many companies, from fast food chains to department stores, have announced that they accept crypto payments. In addition to the introduction of crypto payments, the NFT sector has also increased in the same way. NFT-based event tickets, concert tickets, etc., have started to be used by many companies. Recently, airline companies Emirates and Vueling started to accept crypto payments in their airlines.

With the Covid-19 virus, which we all know and the whole world has experienced, many companies have collapsed or suffered huge losses. The airline company Flybondi was among the companies that suffered huge losses from the virus. For the airline industry, NFT tickets were a world first.
