BNB Chain’s Verified X Account Hacked: Scam Post Promotes Fake Token
BNB Chain – The official X account of BNB Chain—one of the most followed crypto pages with over 3.6 million followers—has been compromised by hackers, triggering serious concerns within the crypto community. The breach was confirmed by former Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, who issued a stark security alert shortly after the suspicious activity was detected.
Suspicious Post Raises Red Flags
The breach became apparent when the compromised account posted “$4 FOR THE MEME”, accompanied by a wallet address and a picture of CZ himself. The post, clearly fraudulent, was even pinned by the attackers, likely in an attempt to maximize visibility and exploit unsuspecting followers.
CZ quickly took to social media to warn users against clicking any suspicious links coming from the compromised handle. He confirmed that the team is actively investigating the incident. Adding further weight to the alert, Binance’s official Chinese-language account also acknowledged the hack and reiterated the warning to the broader community.
Part of a Growing Trend
This isn’t an isolated incident. The first half of 2025 has seen a string of high-profile X account hacks linked to crypto scams. In February, the account of Pump.fun was hijacked to announce a fake governance token, while an account belonging to a WIRED journalist was used to promote a counterfeit meme token falsely branded with the WIRED name.
High-profile figures have also been targets. In March, the X account of Ghanaian President John Mahama was breached to promote “Solanafrica,” a fake Solana-based token. Just a month later, UK government minister Lucy Powell’s account was used to advertise a sham “community-driven digital currency.”
Stay Vigilant
With the frequency of social media breaches on the rise, this latest BNB Chain hack is a harsh reminder of the cybersecurity risks in the crypto space. Users are urged to remain cautious and verify all links, even if they appear to come from official sources.
