Meet the Base App: Coinbase’s Bold New Super App to Revolutionize Crypto and Social Media
After renaming its Coinbase Wallet as the Base app, the US crypto exchange Coinbase is releasing its own super app. With a video demonstrating how it will integrate social media and messaging with a cryptocurrency wallet, trading, and payment features, Coinbase revealed its new “everything app” on Wednesday.
At the company’s A New Day One conference in Los Angeles, the new Base app was unveiled. Additionally, it will support mini apps that operate on Base, the company’s Ethereum layer-2 blockchain.

Coinbase Base App to Feature Encrypted Chat, Open Social, and Built-In Trading
The company developed the software to promote economic independence, creativity, and innovation, according to John Granata, head of product for the Base app. He also mentioned that Coinbase Wallet might serve as the foundation for a brand-new social network. He also mentioned that the app, which has a waitlist and is still in development, is built around four main experiences: a social network, a location to find and utilize apps, an encrypted chat, and a wallet for trade and payments.
The new platform includes an open social network powered by Farcaster, where content creators may profit directly from their postings without having to meet the following requirements or negotiate brand arrangements. Additionally, users may buy, sell, and trade supported cryptocurrencies right within their social stream thanks to integrated trading. Through “Base Pay,” users can tap to pay for immediate transfers using Circle’s USDC (USDC) through NFC (Near Field Communication) payments.
Base App Unlocks Gaming, Yield Farming, and Prediction Mini-Apps
The upgraded chat offers end-to-end encrypted communications with AI agents for trade and transactions. Moreover, there are hundreds of integrated mini-applications for gaming, yield farming, and prediction markets. Additionally, a “Sign in with Base” function would enable users to quickly sign in to a variety of web apps by carrying their login credentials with them.
