Koç Holding Invests in the Future of Crypto
Koç Holding, one of Turkey’s most powerful business empires, has officially announced a massive investment in the cryptocurrency sector, signaling a strategic pivot into digital finance. Through its flagship financial subsidiary Yapı Kredi Bank, the group plans to establish a new crypto trading platform under the name Yapı Kredi Finansal Teknolojiler A.Ş.
Capital Boost for Crypto Ambitions
According to a public disclosure on the KAP (Public Disclosure Platform), Yapı Kredi will support this new venture by participating in a capital increase of up to ₺1.185 billion (approx. $36 million). The funding will be used to set up the exchange, pending regulatory approval. The platform aims to meet the growing demand for secure and local cryptocurrency services in Turkey.
The official statement reads:
“A company is planned to be established to operate in the field of crypto asset trading platforms, fully owned by Yapı Kredi Finansal Teknolojiler A.Ş., subject to necessary approvals.”
From Healthcare to Blockchain
Koç Holding has been on an aggressive diversification path. After acquiring a seven-hospital chain in Antalya and a majority stake in Stembio, a biotech firm, the group now sets its sights on blockchain technology and digital assets. The move also complements its continued interests in the automotive sector, including the Tofaş-Stellantis partnership.
What This Means for the Turkish Crypto Market
While no launch date has been given, industry watchers believe Koç Holding’s entry into crypto will significantly boost mainstream adoption in Turkey. This bold investment by a traditional powerhouse underscores the growing legitimacy of digital assets in emerging markets.
