FIFA Goes Web3- FIFA Blockchain Debuts with NFTs and Games
FIFA Goes Web3– In May 2025, FIFA officially unveiled a dedicated Layer-1 blockchain built using Avalanche’s Subnet technology, marking a strategic shift from its prior partnership with Algorand. This new blockchain will serve as the backbone for all of FIFA’s Web3 products — including digital collectibles, games, and fan engagement platforms — offering greater control, scalability, and a smoother user experience.
FIFA now has full sovereignty over its digital ecosystem.
Why Avalanche? Performance, Flexibility, and EVM Compatibility
Unlike Algorand, Avalanche Subnets are EVM-compatible, meaning FIFA’s blockchain can easily integrate with the broader Ethereum ecosystem. This compatibility allows developers to deploy smart contracts using Solidity and enables users to connect with wallets like MetaMask or Trust Wallet — reducing friction and onboarding barriers.

Designed for Global Scale
With a fanbase exceeding 5 billion and over 1.5 billion viewers for the 2022 World Cup final alone, FIFA needed infrastructure that could handle massive traffic spikes. Avalanche Subnets offer independent scalability, allowing FIFA to customize throughput and governance for major events like the Club World Cup or the 2026 World Cup.
FIFA Collect 2.0: Digital Ownership With Real-World Utility
The FIFA Collect platform has fully migrated from Algorand to the new Avalanche-based chain. Fans can still buy, sell, and trade NFTs, but now select collectibles unlock real perks — including match tickets, exclusive airdrops, and more.
Web3 development firm Modex now oversees the platform, ensuring faster transactions and deeper wallet integration.
Gaming With Real Ownership: Introducing FIFA Rivals
FIFA is also launching FIFA Rivals, an arcade-style mobile football game created in collaboration with Mythical Games and Bacon Games. In-game assets like player cards are minted as NFTs on the Mythos blockchain, giving players actual ownership of digital items they earn or purchase.
The FUTBOL Token: Uniting Fans Through Digital Participation
Another standout initiative is 0xFútbol, a fan-driven platform powered by the FUTBOL token. This ecosystem allows fans to participate in prediction markets, quest-based challenges, and reward systems — creating a tokenized community experience around the sport.
Simplified Access With Global Wallet Support
Thanks to EVM support, fans can now use mainstream wallets like MetaMask or WalletConnect, eliminating the need for niche wallet setups. This opens doors for broader participation, particularly in emerging markets.
A New Era: From Spectators to Stakeholders
FIFA’s new blockchain framework transforms fans from passive viewers into active participants in the football experience. Whether through collectibles, games, or governance-based projects, the new ecosystem encourages deep, ongoing fan engagement.
