Uber CEO- Dara Khosrowshahi Says Uber Is Exploring Stablecoin Use
Uber CEO– At the Bloomberg Tech Summit in San Francisco, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi revealed the company is actively exploring the potential use of stablecoins as a future payment method. Khosrowshahi emphasized the functional value of stablecoins over speculative cryptocurrencies.
I think stablecoin is one of the more interesting instantiations of crypto that has a practical benefit other than crypto as a store of value, So that’s super interesting to us, and we’re definitely going to take a look.
Reducing Cross-Border Payment Friction
Khosrowshahi pointed to the benefits stablecoins could bring to global businesses, particularly by cutting down the high costs and inefficiencies in international money transfers. While Uber had previously considered Bitcoin and other digital assets, the CEO made clear that stablecoins now hold more appeal due to their stability and real-world utility.
He clarified that the company remains in a research phase, and any decision would depend on operational feasibility and regulatory clarity.
Despite earlier statements in 2021 and 2022 expressing openness to crypto payments, Khosrowshahi reiterated that Uber does not plan to hold crypto assets like Bitcoin on its balance sheet.
We’re open to accepting crypto when the benefits outweigh the costs.
Regulatory Momentum and TradFi Interest
The stablecoin sector has gained further momentum amid growing U.S. regulatory support, particularly with the Genius Act championed by President Donald Trump. Additionally, major traditional financial institutions such as Bank of America, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo are reportedly considering launching a joint stablecoin project.
Uber’s interest adds to the growing corporate momentum behind stablecoins as a practical tool for modern payment infrastructure.
