BBVA Crypto App – BBVA Supports Bitcoin and Ethereum Trading
BBVA Crypto App – Spanish banking powerhouse BBVA has officially introduced Bitcoin and Ethereum trading and custody services directly through its mobile app for retail customers in Spain. This bold move marks a major step in bringing crypto adoption mainstream within one of Europe’s largest economies.
Seamless Crypto Access in Your Pocket
Unlike many banks that depend on third-party exchanges or custodians, BBVA fully integrated its crypto offering into its existing app infrastructure. Now, Spanish customers of legal age can buy, sell, and store cryptocurrencies safely within BBVA’s trusted digital banking environment. However, it’s important to note that the bank does not provide investment advice on these digital assets, allowing users full control of their transactions.
Regulatory Backing and EU Compliance
This new service follows a regulatory filing with Spain’s National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) in March 2025 and complies with the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation. This means BBVA’s crypto offering meets standardized legal requirements designed to protect customers across the European Union.
BBVA’s Crypto Journey Continues
BBVA first tested the waters by launching crypto services for private banking clients in Switzerland in 2021, then expanded to Turkey in 2023 via its subsidiary Garanti BBVA. The Spanish rollout represents the bank’s third market for digital assets—and the first time it targets retail customers directly at home.
Francisco Maroto, BBVA’s Head of Digital Assets, revealed plans to expand offerings by adding stablecoins and tokenized traditional investments such as bonds and funds, aiming to bring innovative and secure solutions to its growing customer base.
Secure Custody Infrastructure
To protect clients’ crypto holdings, BBVA uses its own proprietary custody infrastructure, giving the bank full control over security and asset management. Future updates are expected to introduce more crypto-assets and tokenized investment options, further cementing BBVA’s role as a leader in digital finance innovation.
With this latest initiative, BBVA is clearly positioning itself at the forefront of Europe’s digital asset revolution.
