FC Barcelona Receives $100M Investment to Accelerate Adaptation to Web3

FC Barcelona has announced that its blockchain-powered fan engagement and rewards app Socios.com will become “a strategic technology partner for FC Barcelona to support blockchain, NFT, digital asset projects and Web 3.0 strategies.”

FC Barcelona, the flagship team of Spanish football, competing in LaLiga and Champions League; announced that Chiliz, the owner of Socios.com, the global blockchain provider of the sports industry, has become a partner, acquiring a 24.5% stake with a $100M investment in Barça Studios, the club’s digital content creation and distribution center.

“The new partnership will enhance the club’s ability to deliver meaningful digital products to fans and build new long-term sustainable revenue streams.” Socios.com

Barca Studios said in a statement that they are happy to benefit from Socios.com’s experience in blockchain technology in creating a helpful web3 program that will connect fans with the club.

$BAR Fan Token

According to Socios.com, the $BAR Fan Token, released by Chiliz for FC Barcelona fans in February 2020, will be the key that will unlock new features that Socios.com and Barça Studios have created together.

Since 2020, $39 million worth of $BAR Fan Tokens have been sold. Fan Token holders will have the opportunity to win exclusive discounts and promotions, as well as unique prizes such as autographed merchandise, VIP tickets and the chance to play at FC Barcelona’s stadium, Camp Nou.
