Joe Lubin: Staked Ether ETFs Will Boost Ethereum Ecosystem

Ether ETFs – The potential approval of Ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that offer staking is gaining momentum, with Consensys founder Joe Lubin expressing hope that regulatory approval could come soon. In an interview with Cointelegraph on January 21, Lubin revealed that discussions with ETF providers are progressing, and these providers are optimistic about receiving a green light for staked Ether ETFs in the near future.

Lubin mentioned that the ETF issuers are “working hard on creating the best solutions” for handling the complexities of staking and slashing, further emphasizing that these efforts will ultimately benefit the Ethereum ecosystem and the broader blockchain technology landscape.

Ethereum Ecosystem and Client Diversity

Lubin also noted that the approval of staked Ether ETFs would support the growth of the Ethereum ecosystem by enabling more diversified and robust solutions. He believes that this move will also lead to greater client diversity, ultimately contributing to the broader adoption of blockchain technology and increasing investment opportunities in the ETH market.

SEC’s Recent Moves and Future Staked Ether ETF Approval

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved spot Ether ETFs in 2024, with nine products launched in July. However, the SEC has not yet approved a staked Ether ETF, a decision that may be impacted by changes in leadership. The announcement of a crypto task force led by SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce on January 21 raised hopes for regulatory progress in the crypto space.

In a December interview, Peirce suggested that a pro-crypto shift within the SEC could make it easier for staked Ether ETFs to gain approval. On January 22, former Polygon financial chief Young Ko voiced his support for Peirce’s leadership, stating that her understanding of technology and support for builders could be a significant boost for the industry.

Industry Experts Expect Approval Under New SEC Leadership

According to Bernstein Research, the approval of ETH staking yield ETFs is likely, especially with a crypto-friendly SEC under the leadership of Peirce. This marks a significant step forward for Ethereum investors and the growing demand for crypto-based financial products.
