Reddit users have identified a deepfake video featuring Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse urging XRP holders to send their coins to a specified address, promising a double return—an infamous tactic used by fraudsters. The deceptive video was reported on a Reddit thread, with users noting sightings on YouTube as early as Nov. 25 and Dec. 3. In the video, an AI-generated likeness of Garlinghouse encourages viewers to partake in an XRP event, sending tokens to a designated address for a promised ‘double the amount’ return in a fake giveaway.

Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, previously cautioned investors about the surge in XRP scams following a July court ruling in favor of Ripple against the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Schwartz emphasized that there were no associated airdrops, giveaways, or special offers linked to the ruling.
Reddit Users Uncover Deepfake Ripple Scam Circulating on YouTube
Despite clear indications of the video ad being a crypto scam, a Reddit user alleges that Google has declined to remove the advertisement. The user posted a screenshot of a response from Google’s Trust and Safety Team, stating their decision not to take down the ad, asserting that it did not violate their policies. The user was advised to submit additional information within six months.
Redditors also shared a link to an unlisted video of the deepfake ad on YouTube. As of the current writing, the video had garnered over 17,000 views despite not being searchable on the platform. Members of the Reddit community cautioned against interacting with the video’s QR code to prevent potential financial losses.
