Michael Saylor: Stock Drop and Investor Reactions

Michael Saylor– Shares of Strategy (MSTR) have experienced a significant 30% decline following the appearance of its executive chairman and former CEO, Michael Saylor, on the cover of Forbes. According to Yahoo Finance data, from January 30 to March 10, MSTR’s stock dropped from $340.09 to $238.25, including a sharp 17% decrease on March 10. This decline comes as part of a broader downturn in the tech sector, with the Nasdaq Composite falling over 4% on that day.

The decline in MSTR’s stock comes amid growing concerns about a potential recession. The Atlanta Fed’s forecast for a negative -2.4% GDP growth in Q1 2025, coupled with rising trade war tensions, has created fear among investors. As CNN’s Fear & Greed index dipped to “16,” signaling “Extreme Fear,” the broader market sentiment has become increasingly cautious.

Michael Saylor’s Strategy: Bitcoin Investment And Stock Decline

Despite the stock drop, Strategy has remained committed to its Bitcoin strategy. On March 10, the company announced plans to raise an additional $21 billion, which would be used for general corporate purposes, including the acquisition of Bitcoin. In February, Strategy purchased 20,356 Bitcoin for nearly $2 billion, which is still profitable by 18.9%, given their average purchase price of $66,423 per Bitcoin.

Debate Over Bitcoin Strategy

Strategy’s approach of acquiring Bitcoin through stock issuance and debt has sparked both admiration and skepticism. Some in the crypto community view it as a savvy move, betting on Bitcoin’s long-term value, while others express concern over the risks involved. In a post on X, crypto investor Hedgex.eth warned that Saylor’s strategy could end up harming Bitcoin, stating, “Saylor will do more damage to Bitcoin than anyone else using endless leverage.”

However, Strategy’s Bitcoin-focused strategy has inspired others, including Metaplanet, whose stock surged 4,800% in 12 months after adopting a similar approach.
