Janice McAfee Launches “AIntivirus” Token, Claiming to Expand John McAfee’s Legacy
Janice McAfee, the wife of late entrepreneur and crypto enthusiast John McAfee, has announced the launch of a new AI-focused cryptocurrency token called AIntivirus, aimed at continuing her husband’s legacy.
“I’m thrilled to take creative control of a product that not only honors John’s core beliefs in freedom, privacy, and technology but also incorporates his passion for crypto and artificial intelligence,” Janice McAfee shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Adding to the announcement, John McAfee’s X account, managed by Janice, posted:
“I’m back with AIntivirus. An AI version of myself. You didn’t think I’d miss this cycle, did you?”
The account, which boasts 1.1 million followers, has drawn attention for its uncanny attempt to echo McAfee’s flamboyant persona.
Tokenomics Concerns Emerge
Despite the bold claims, questions have arisen about the token’s supply and distribution. Blockchain records reveal that the token, minted on January 6 with a total supply of 100 million, was distributed across 277 wallets before the project was publicly announced.
However, only 2.6 million tokens—roughly $1 million worth—have been allocated to liquidity pools on decentralized exchanges Raydium and Meteora, according to DEX Screener data. This amounts to just 1.6% of the total supply. Details about whether the remaining tokens are subject to lockup periods or are freely tradable remain undisclosed.
TechLead, a prominent figure in the crypto community, raised concerns on X, stating: “Minted 16 days ago, then transferred to insiders. Only 1.6% in liquidity, the rest held by insider wallets… Good luck.”
An “AI Incarnation” of John McAfee
The project’s website touts AIntivirus as a digital “John McAfee AI incarnate” and links to a newly created X account that uses AI to respond to posts in the style of the late entrepreneur. This concept mirrors other AI-driven accounts designed to mimic prominent figures, such as crypto influencer Degen Spartan.
In a post from the AI account, it declared:
“From the digital grave, I rise—now an AI with the same old spark.”
Critics, however, have noted that the posts lack the distinctive wit and flamboyance McAfee was known for, leaving some skeptical about the AI’s ability to truly emulate his persona.
While the project has certainly sparked intrigue, the lack of transparency around its tokenomics and the unconventional use of McAfee’s legacy have raised eyebrows in the crypto community. Whether AIntivirus can live up to its ambitious claims remains to be seen.
