FBI Warns of Potential Cash-Out by North Korean Hackers Linked to Lazarus Group and APT38, Following Cryptocurrency Hacks Worth $40 Million

Crypto News – The FBI has made public six wallets associated with North Korean hacking groups, namely the Lazarus Group and APT38. In an official statement released on Tuesday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation cautioned that North Korean hackers could potentially endeavor to convert pilfered bitcoins, valued at over $40 million.

The Lazarus Group and APT38, both originating from North Korea, have been implicated in a string of cryptocurrency breaches earlier this year. Among these were the $60 million heist from the payment processor Alphapo and the $100 million breach of Atomic Wallet, according to the FBI.

In a previous instance, the FBI had already attributed the Horizon Bridge hack of the previous year, amounting to a loss exceeding $100 million, to these two groups.

The FBI has successfully identified six wallets, collectively holding 1,580 bitcoins (equivalent to $41 million), as having ties to these hacking collectives. In a cautionary message, the FBI has advised cryptocurrency companies to refrain from engaging with these specific wallets.

The statement from the FBI underscored its unwavering commitment to exposing and countering the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRK) employment of unlawful activities, encompassing cybercrimes and the theft of virtual currencies, all of which are employed to generate revenue for the regime.
