Ethereum Burned- Programmer’s $7 Million Ethereum Protest Sparks Debate on Digital Privacy

Ethereum Burned– A man who identified himself as Hu Lezhi, an “ordinary programmer and entrepreneur,” has made headlines for burning and donating approximately $7 million worth of Ethereum (ETH) in a personal protest. The controversial move, which took place over the past week, has sparked significant attention on Crypto Twitter, as many users are now trying to understand his motivations—and possibly lay claim to what remains of his ETH.

Hu Lezhi has sent around 2,553 ETH (worth approximately $7 million) through various transactions. Of this amount, 603 ETH, valued at roughly $1.65 million, was permanently removed from circulation. This was done by sending the ETH to an unspendable address known as the “burn address” (0x00000). This act of burning coins is a method that cryptocurrency users sometimes use to protest or make a statement, essentially removing the coins from circulation permanently.

Hu’s Personal Statement

In his on-chain message, Hu Lezhi outlined the personal reasons behind his radical move. He claims that since October 2022, he has felt manipulated and monitored by what he refers to as a “brain-control organization,” which, he believes, has been controlling him since his birth. “The past two years have been extremely painful, and I have now reached a point where I have completely lost my dignity as a human being,” Hu wrote on the blockchain. His statement revealed that he feels increasingly targeted by this organization, which he says intensified its harm upon his realization of its existence.

Accusations Against Chinese Hedge Fund Executives

In one of the transactions, Hu Lezhi sent a message accusing executives at the Chinese hedge fund WizardQuant Capital Management of using “brain-computer weapons” to control their employees. WizardQuant, a quantitative trading firm founded by Wall Street veterans and operating in Shanghai and Beijing, has not yet commented on these accusations.

As news of Hu Lezhi’s ETH donation and burn spread, many in the crypto community are intrigued by the sheer scale of his actions. While some view his actions as a bizarre form of protest, others are hoping to claim what remains of the ETH left behind. His move has added to the growing discussions about personal autonomy, surveillance, and control in the digital age, especially concerning cryptocurrencies.

An Unconventional Protest

What began as a personal statement has now become a spectacle, leaving people wondering if cryptocurrency can serve as a platform for personal protest and if blockchain will continue to be used in such unusual ways. However, regardless of the emotional intensity of Hu Lezhi’s actions, they raise important questions about digital sovereignty and privacy in a hyper-connected world.

The situation remains fluid, and many on social media are following Hu Lezhi’s next steps, while others look for opportunities in the ongoing developments.
