Crypto News- In a bold move to restore faith in the GameFi ecosystem, Munchables developers announced the enlistment of ZachXBT, a prominent figure in blockchain sleuthing, as one of four custodians entrusted with the multi-signature wallet safeguarding hacked user funds.
ZachXBT Steps In: Custodian Role Established for 63M Dollars Munchables Hack Recovery
In a recent declaration on April 1st, Munchables developers disclosed ZachXBT’s pivotal role, affirming, “ZachXBT will serve as the fourth signatory in our multisig setup, ensuring the secure restitution of user assets.” The custodial quartet, comprising Manifold Trading, Selini Capital, Munchables itself, and now ZachXBT, stands united in this endeavor. Additionally, Nethermind’s expertise has been enlisted for auditing all refreshed contracts before relaunch.
With all user assets successfully recovered, refunds are slated for direct delivery to their respective wallets post-exploit resolution.
Expressing his commitment, ZachXBT stated, “I’ll be temporarily joining the multisig as a signatory for the initial phase,” emphasizing his short-term involvement and expectation for transparent rotation of signatories by the team.
Incentives Galore: Munchables Developers Offer Rewards for Contributors
In a bid to reward contributors, developers tantalizingly hinted at “substantial incentives in game rewards” for returning depositors. Moreover, the platform vows a re-release featuring NFT migration plans and undisclosed enhancements. Custodians and assisting users are promised “ETH and future MUNCH donations” for their pivotal role in asset recovery.
Quoting the wisdom of Confucius, Munchables developers shared, “We have two lives to munch, and the second begins when we realize we only have one.”
The exploit, unraveling on March 26, inflicted a staggering $63 million blow to Munchables, operating on the Ethereum layer-2 network Blast. Allegations emerged of Munchables engaging a North Korean developer under the alias “Werewolves0943,” who purportedly breached the game’s private wallets.
In a revealing post-mortem, ZachXBT unveiled the exploiter’s elaborate ruse, impersonating four Munchables developers. The malicious actor eventually relinquished private keys, granting unrestricted access to user funds.
