Polymarket Users Bet on Trump’s X Space Conversation
On August 12, users of Polymarket bet about $5 million on what former President Donald Trump would say in his meeting with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. In total, 11 markets on Polymarket experienced this level of trading activity, encompassing terms related to cryptocurrencies, such as “bitcoin” and “crypto,” in addition to more politically charged subjects like “censorship” and “civil war,” as well as terms like “tampon” and “weird.” Over 1,500 comments were made on the platform due to the popularity of these markets’ betting.
The highest amount of money was wagered on whether Trump would use the term “crypto,” followed by “MAGA” and “illegal immigrant.” Three words—”MAGA,” “illegal immigrant,” and “tampon”—were actually said by Trump. When Trump said the catchphrase “MAGA,” the odds were 59%, which meant that those who had just placed a wager would not see their money double. The probability increased from 46% for “illegal immigrant” when he said it. When he pronounced the word “tampon,” however, the odds were at 7%; therefore, the odds for everyone who had just bet that he would say it increased by 14X.
Harris Leads Trump in $581M Polymarket Bets
Trump and Musk had an audio call known as X Space on the latter’s social networking platform. A distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, according to Musk, caused the conversation to be delayed by about 45 minutes. Topics of discussion included immigration, inflation, and the most recent attempt on Trump’s life.
