Crypto News – In a dynamic move aimed at fostering innovation within the cryptocurrency landscape, Brian Armstrong, the founder of Coinbase, has not only received over 150 project applications for his previously proposed ideas but has also introduced an exciting 11th startup concept – a Web3 version of LinkedIn. This latest idea seeks to revolutionize the way employment and credentials are verified in the emerging Web3 era.

Web3 LinkedIn as a Novel Crypto Startup Idea

Brian Armstrong’s announcement aligns with his vision for the future of cryptocurrency, as unveiled in a recent business blog post and presentation on August 30th. In this vision, he explored various concepts with the potential to reshape the digital asset market, emphasizing the importance of a robust ecosystem beyond Coinbase’s core offerings.

One standout idea among Armstrong’s latest concepts is the development of a Web3 version of LinkedIn, where businesses can issue verifiable, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to authenticate employment and qualifications. This innovation holds the promise of replacing existing resume verification processes, offering a secure and transparent means of certifying professional credentials.

Armstrong envisions several components for this project, including the creation of a user-friendly interface for exploring employee and employer profiles. Establishing a network effect, a critical factor for success in any social platform, poses a challenge. However, Armstrong hints at a solution by allowing users to mint their NFTs if they can verify their affiliation with a company through a .com email address, among other strategies.

The concept of Web3 LinkedIn emerges following Armstrong’s vision for a marketplace for cryptocurrency jobs and tasks. This marketplace could enable individuals to discover cryptocurrency-related opportunities worldwide, facilitate crypto payments for work, and eliminate cross-border payment barriers. Coinbase has also announced a partnership with X (formerly known as Twitter) to launch a job posting service.

Coinbase Ventures is additionally planning to host a Builder Summit in October, inviting a select group of founders and projects that align with Armstrong’s vision. The summit aims to bring together leading minds in the cryptocurrency sector to encourage collaborative discussions and potential investments.

Armstrong’s Array of Crypto Startup Ideas

While the Web3 LinkedIn concept takes center stage, Armstrong’s other ideas are equally intriguing. He introduces “Flatcoin,” a decentralized currency designed to track consumer prices, thereby preserving purchasing power. Another concept involves the creation of an “Onchain Reputation” protocol that assigns reputation scores based on on-chain data, leveraging decentralized identity systems like ENS.

Furthermore, Armstrong envisions a new era of advertising with “Onchain Ads.” In this model, smart contracts define real-time payments for user actions, creating an auction mechanism for ad inventory within the Web 3.0 landscape.

However, not everyone shares the same level of enthusiasm for every idea. Ari Paul, the founder of BlockTower Capital, offers a pragmatic perspective. He believes that “On-chain Reputation” may require time to gain traction, while “On-chain Advertising” faces challenges due to its limited market size. Paul also suggests that the concept of a “Job/Task Marketplace” may not be directly tied to cryptocurrency, and Layer 2 privacy solutions present challenges for entrepreneurship profitability.
