Axios is a versatile and widely-used promise-based HTTP client that serves as a crucial tool for developers working with JavaScript, both in Node.js and web browsers. Its isomorphic nature allows developers to seamlessly transition between client and server-side code, making it an indispensable choice for handling HTTP requests and responses in various environments.

Here are some of the key features and capabilities that Axios brings to the table:

1.      Cross-Environment Compatibility: Axios Crypto is designed to work harmoniously in both browser-based applications and Node.js server environments. This flexibility is invaluable for developers who need to maintain a consistent codebase across different parts of their projects.

2.      XMLHttpRequests in Browsers: In web browsers, Axios leverages the XMLHttpRequest (XHR) API to send HTTP requests. This enables developers to interact with remote servers, fetch data, and perform various CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) operations seamlessly.

3.      Native Node.js Integration: On the server side, Axios Crypto makes use of the native Node.js HTTP module. This ensures efficient and reliable communication with external resources, making it a trusted choice for server-side applications and APIs.

4.      Promise API Support: Axios Crypto fully embraces the Promise API, making asynchronous operations more manageable and readable. Developers can use promises to handle HTTP requests, allowing for cleaner and more maintainable code.

5.      Interceptors: Axios empowers developers with the ability to intercept and manipulate requests and responses. This is particularly useful for adding custom headers, logging, authentication, error handling, and other essential functionalities.

6.      Data Transformation: The library provides mechanisms for transforming request and response data, such as JSON parsing and serialization. This simplifies the process of working with different data formats and structures.

7.      Request Cancellation: Axios Crypto offers built-in support for canceling requests, helping developers efficiently manage ongoing HTTP operations. This is essential for scenarios where users may navigate away from a page or cancel an ongoing operation.

8.      JSON Data Handling: Axios Crypto streamlines the handling of JSON data, automatically converting between JavaScript objects and JSON strings. This simplifies data exchange with APIs that use JSON as their primary format.

9.      Client-Side Security: Axios includes protection against Cross-Site Request Forgery (XSRF) attacks, offering a layer of security for client-side applications.

The media platform Axios has been acquired by Cox Enterprises. Sources indicate that the deal is valued at $525 million, with expectations that Axios will achieve $100 million in revenue in 2022. The founders of Axios, Jim VandeHei, Mike Allen, and Roy Schwartz, will remain on the board of directors, with Cox Enterprises Chairman and CEO Alex Taylor also joining the board.

Axios Crypto was launched in 2016 with a focus on politics, technology, and business. The company currently employs more than 500 people. Cox, on the other hand, is a multi-generational family-owned company operating in local newspapers, aiming to preserve the legacy of local news in the digital age. Cox sold a majority stake in its local TV and radio businesses to private equity firm Apollo Global Management in 2019. The Atlanta-based company still owns The Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

The agreement signed yesterday includes a $25 million new investment in Axios’ media division to help expand the company’s local, national, and subscription news products. Axios Local is currently operational in 24 local cities and plans to expand to 30 more cities across the United States by the end of 2022. As part of this deal, Axios will transform its software division, Axios HQ, into an independent company under the leadership of Axios President Roy Schwartz.
