Split Ethereum Pectra Upgrade Could See Faster Network Enhancements in 2025
The widely awaited Pectra upgrade, which would boost the network’s efficiency and scalability, may be split into two sections, according to Ethereum developers. Early in 2025, the first phase might begin.
There is broad agreement that if we split, the idea is that we want to ship Pectra one quicker, or as quick as possible, early next year should be our target,

The Prague upgrade and the Electra upgrade are two distinct improvements that are combined in Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade. While the Electra upgrade affects the consensus layer, the Prague upgrade concentrates on modifications to the network’s execution layer.
Splitting the fork only makes sense if we are talking Q1 delivery,

Ethereum Developers to Discuss Potential Pectra Upgrade Split in Next ACD Call
Ansgar Dietrichs, an EF researcher, believed that if it were divided and not supplied as soon as possible, it would be a setback. He stated during the discussion that he believed a split where they still only shipped the first half in, say, June would be a failure. It was recommended that since smaller forks typically involve less danger, breaking the upgrade into two could be a safer course of action. The likelihood of the split, according to Galaxy crypto researcher Christine Kim, is high due to the complexity of the current Pectra fork and the desire to add still more to the upgrade.
The scope of the Pectra upgrade could change drastically if devs decide to split it across two hard forks,

This will be decided by the developers on September 19 during the next Ethereum All Core Developers (ACD) call.
