Hackathon is simply the name of an event. These events can last 24 hours or a whole weekend. Rarely, there may be Hackathons that last for a week. Before moving on to HackJuno Turkey, one of the most curious Hackathons, let’s look at some more general information about them.
What is Hackathon? Curiosities About HackJuno Turkey
Hackathons go by many different names. Hackfest, Codefest, and Hack Day are just a few of them. The main goal of this event is to develop the most successful application compared to other participants within a set time limit. The most successful project, of course, wins a prize. Interface designers, application developers, software developers, and graphic designers can participate in this event organized by important organizations or technology companies in the sector.
Each event has a different theme. In this direction, participants are expected to develop a unique project. These are more or less the definition of a Hackathon. Now that we know what a hackathon is, we can learn about HackJuno Turkey.
What is HackJuno Turkey?
While many different names have proven themselves in the Turkish blockchain ecosystem, four stand out. These four notable names are a blockchain ecosystem 0xWilds, a next-generation blockchain system Castrum Istanbul, a Cosmos ecosystem developer team Tabellio and a Cosmos developer team Nova Ratio Labs. The four united and pioneered HackJuno Turkey to turn their dreams into reality.
HackJuno Turkey is basically a Hackathon event. However, with the dedicated work of these four big names, it has managed to differentiate itself from other blockchain-based Hackathons. DeFi, GameFi, and SocialFi are among the interesting titles of the event, which stand out with the topics of GameFi, Game to Awareness, and Social Responsibility.
Why is HackJuno Turkey Unique?
The most significant element that will make this event different from other Hackathons is education and awareness. As mentioned before, the purpose of the event is to create value for the ecosystem without any profit motive. With this value, the organizers and mentors (0xWilds, Castrum Istanbul, Tabellio, and Nova Ratio Lab) believe that it will be possible to make a tangible and intangible contribution to the Turkish Blockchain Ecosystem and support this belief.
About the Event
The original dates of HackathonJuno would have been March 11-12 if everything had gone well. However, as it is known, on February 6, 2023, there was a very strong earthquake with the epicenter in Kahramanmaraş/Turkey. Therefore, the event was postponed to May 20-21, but the location of the 32-hour event has not changed:
- Location: Beyazıt, 34452 Fatih/Istanbul
However, three government agencies are supporting the event, namely the Turkish Sports Federation, Istanbul University, and Istanbul University Faculty of Economics Blockchain Technologies and Innovation Center.
Purpose of the Event
The Turkish Blockchain ecosystem has many purposes for organizing the “HackJuno Turkey Hackathon” event. However, we can say that the primary goal is to introduce the Cosmos network, especially the Juno Ecosystem, to the Turkish Blockchain ecosystem and market.
Budget and Fund Utilization
The HackathonJuno team announced that it is requesting 20,000 Junos from the community for this event. There are many different places where this requested amount will be spent. For example, organizational expenses, prizes for the winners, the cost of necessary equipment, and basic consumption expenses… You can see a better distribution of these below:
- DeFi category-winning project – 5,000 Juno
- GameFi category-winning project – 5,000 Juno
- SocialFi category-winning project – 5,000 Juno
- Organization costs, basic consumption costs, and necessary equipment – 5,000 Juno
On the other hand, various sponsorships will be received throughout the event. For example, sponsorship of energy drinks from Redbull is a very good idea for participants.
About Voting
There are four different voting options. Detailed information about each of these votes is as follows:
- Yes: A yes vote means that you agree that this event should be funded by the Juno community fund.
- No: A No vote, as opposed to a Yes vote, means to reject Juno community funding of the event.
- NoWithVeto: In addition to rejecting funding, this vote means contributing to the rejection of the proposal and the burning of the proposal deposit if it is more than one-third of the total voting power.
