Breaking Crypto News – What are the Advantages of Using ZkSync Sybil Defense Mechanisms?

Breaking Crypto News – Ethereum’s layer-2 scaling zero knowledge platform zkSync has persisted in addressing criticism directed at the requirements for the June 17 launch of its zkSync (ZK) token airdrop. ZK Nation provided responses to 15 queries outlining the reasons why certain parties were granted tokens while others were not in a frequently asked questions (FAQ) document that was last updated on June 15.

Breaking Crypto News - What Are The Advantages Of Using Zksync Sybil Defense Mechanisms?

The detection and mitigation of Sybil attacks was the subject of one of its longer responses. In order to guarantee that the greatest number of organic users received rewards, ZkSync reaffirmed that it had employed both “explicit” Sybil detection and a “unique airdrop design,” but it also mentioned that this had resulted in some Sybil wallets being leaked.

They fund accounts from many distinct exchange addresses, never interact with each other, use randomized amounts, and use software to randomize daily patterns of human behavior, and even perform activities unique to the project (for example, using zkSync paymasters). The majority of such bots are completely undetectable, even with the most advanced anti-Sybil methodology.

Binance Announces ZK Token Airdrop

It happened at the same time that cryptocurrency exchange Binance launched its own ZK airdrop on June 17, aimed at people who aren’t qualified for the official one. In light of the ongoing concerns from the community around ZK token distribution, the exchange announced that it would give out 10.5 million ZK tokens to more than 52,000 Binance members.

In order to be eligible for an airdrop, claim addresses must not have been centralized exchanges, bridges, or contract addresses, and they must have started at least 50 transactions on zkSync Era between February 2023 and March 2024. But only 200 ZK will be awarded to each Binance user.

What Strategy Does ZkSync Follow to Prevent Sybil Attacks?

ZkSync decided to utilize a combination of value scaling and multipliers to reward organic users with “high likelihood” because it stated that being overly severe with filtering could remove some Sybils but also wrongly flag many legitimate users.
