Worldcoin Rebrands As World: 15 Million World Id Users To Access Free Gas And Block Space

Rebranded from Worldcoin, the proof-of-humanity project World, established by Sam Altman, introduced a layer-2 Ethereum blockchain called World Chain. As the company tries to expand its onboarding efforts, it established World Chain to help increase efficiency and bring additional capabilities for users of its Worldcoin WLD token. World announced in a statement on October 17 that 15 million people could now access the network after proving their identity by scanning their iris for a World ID.

According to World, its new blockchain will grant block space and free gas to confirmed human users with World IDs, giving them priority over bots. World added that its blockchain would have a list of popular projects and applications, such as Zerion for real-time APIs, Optimism for interoperability, Uniswap for asset swaps, and Alchemy for development.

World Unveils New Orb and World Chain, Advancing Human-Centric Crypto Adoption

In April, World initially revealed World Chain, claiming that the network advanced its human-centric strategy for promoting the adoption of cryptocurrencies. A new version of World’s Orb, a biometric gadget that resembles a chrome orb and is used by the firm to scan people’s eyeballs, was presented alongside the debut of World Chain. According to the business, the new Orb, which is powered by Nvidia hardware, will have fewer parts and a smaller footprint than its predecessor while being five times as powerful and efficient.

In July 2023, World was released from beta testing. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, Alex Blania, the current CEO, and Max Novendstern, the CEO of biometrics research company Mana, created it. The digital identification project that is based on crypto presents itself as a solution to identity problems that have arisen due to the rapid advancements in AI. World also states that it hopes to use its WLD token to introduce a new universal basic income model.
