Vitalik Buterin Outlines Ethereum Foundation’s Leadership Restructuring Goals

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has shared insights into the ongoing leadership restructuring efforts within the Ethereum Foundation (EF). The process, which has been underway for nearly a year, is aimed at strengthening the foundation’s technical expertise, fostering deeper engagement with the Ethereum ecosystem, and improving operational efficiency.

Buterin emphasized the key objectives driving this transformation:

1. Enhancing Technical Expertise: Elevating the technical proficiency within EF leadership to better address the evolving needs of the Ethereum network.
2. Strengthening Ecosystem Ties: Building stronger two-way communication with the diverse actors in the Ethereum ecosystem, including users (both institutional and individual), application developers, wallet providers, and Layer 2 solutions.
3. Attracting Fresh Talent: Bringing in new perspectives and skills to improve execution capability and speed.
4. Supporting Builders and Core Values: Becoming more actively supportive of application developers while ensuring that Ethereum’s foundational principles—privacy, open-source development, and censorship resistance—remain central at every layer of the ecosystem.
5. Leveraging Decentralized Technologies: Expanding the use of Ethereum’s own decentralized and privacy-focused technology for internal operations, including payments and treasury management.

Buterin also clarified what this restructuring is not intended to achieve. He reaffirmed the EF’s commitment to remaining a neutral and decentralized entity, resisting calls to engage in aggressive lobbying or to act as a centralized authority within the Ethereum ecosystem. “This is not about an ideological pivot or becoming a centralized ‘main character’ in Ethereum’s story,” he stated, encouraging those with different visions to pursue their own initiatives outside the EF.

These changes underscore the Ethereum Foundation’s commitment to staying aligned with the network’s decentralized ethos while positioning itself to better support the ecosystem’s growth and innovation.
