Unizen Hacker: $2.1M Transferred to Tornado Cash by Cybercriminal

Unizen Hacker– A wallet linked to the Unizen DeFi protocol hack has moved 865.4 Ether, worth about $2.16 million, to Tornado Cash. PeckShield, a blockchain security firm, reported this transfer on August 7, marking the first activity of the stolen funds since March 8.

Following the hack, Unizen had pledged to reimburse users who lost $750,000 or less, with the refund process starting on March 11.

Stolen Funds from Unizen Hack Moved to Tornado Cash, Conversion to Ether Noted

On August 7, stolen funds, including the Maker Protocol stablecoin Dai (DAI), began moving from the exploiter’s wallet for the first time since the Unizen hack 151 days ago. At 4:12 am UTC, 500,000 DAI was transferred, followed by an additional 1,679,859 DAI sent to an unknown wallet (0x8660…84d7).

Starting at 4:14 am, the exploiter began converting the 2,179,859 DAI into 863.67 Ether (ETH). From 5:35 am onward, the ETH was sent to Tornado Cash in 26 separate transactions.

On March 11, Unizen revealed that CEO Sean Noga had injected funds into the company to facilitate the reimbursement of victims affected by the $2.16 million hack. According to the announcement, refunds would be issued in Tether (USDT) or USD Coin (USDC).

For users who lost more than $750,000 in the breach, Unizen stated that each case would be handled individually, reflecting a tailored approach to addressing the more significant losses sustained during the incident.
