Alongside Miles, we meet Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), a remarkable arachnid-powered hero in her own universe, who shares the experience of having a parent in law enforcement. (Curiously, Gwen’s gender-flipped status does not grant her a police officer mother, although the reasons for this are not immediately clear.) Additionally, there’s Spider-Man India (Karan Soni) and a mature Peter Parker (Jake Johnson). Miles finds himself confronted by a formidable foe connected to his fateful spider bite, setting the stage for an existential crisis.

These Spider-Man films amplify and intensify the profound metaphor of teenage identity that lies at the core of Stan Lee’s enduring creation. Peter Parker, unable to disclose his dual identity as Spider-Man to his parents and friends, embodies the extraordinary nature of his abilities as both a superpower and a burden.
