Crypto News – Anthropic, an AI development company with support from Google, has secured a substantial investment of $100 million from South Korean telecommunications giant SK Telecom. This collaboration, announced on August 13th, is set to further enhance the capabilities of the telecommunications industry through the development of a multilingual large language model (LLM) for the Telco AI Platform.

This joint effort aims to create a powerful language model that supports languages such as Korean, English, German, Japanese, Arabic, and Spanish. The overarching goal is to enable the creation of tailored AI services for global telecom service providers. Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s co-founder and CEO, expressed SK Telecom’s ambitious plans to revolutionize the telecommunications sector using AI technology.

Amodei highlighted the potential of industry-specific LLMs in ensuring safer and more dependable deployments of AI. Furthermore, the collaboration intends to refine Anthropic’s latest model, Claude 2, which was introduced on July 11th.

This strategic move aligns with the growing recognition of South Korea as a burgeoning AI market, particularly in the domain of chip development. Anthropic, founded by former members of AI leader OpenAI (backed by Microsoft), had previously concluded a Series C funding round in May, raising $450 million from notable investors including Google, Salesforce Ventures, Sound Ventures, and Zoom Ventures. The company’s inaugural substantial investment came from Google Cloud in February 2023.

In addition to its industry partnerships, Anthropic has been chosen to participate in the AI cybersecurity challenge introduced by the Biden administration, aimed at fortifying the cybersecurity infrastructure of the United States. The company is also a participant in the Frontier Model Forum, alongside tech giants Google, OpenAI, and Microsoft, dedicated to contributing to the regulation of AI development.

This collaboration between Anthropic and SK Telecom promises to shape the future of AI-powered telecommunications services, facilitating customized solutions on a global scale while tapping into the expertise of leaders in the field.
