Last month, Polygon overtook Hive for second place, while Hunters’ on-chain RPG fueled the growth of active wallets, partly unique.
Polygon Becomes Second-Largest Gaming Blockchain
A spike in user activity for Ethereum’s Polygon Layer 2 scaling solution in March made the network the second largest blockchain gaming network in terms of Unique Active Wallets (UAW).
The number of ADRs involved in games on Polygon reached 138,081 in March, representing a 53% increase from February, according to the “Blockchain Gaming Report” published by decentralized application (DApp) analytics platform DappRadar. This puts Polygon well ahead of Hive and BNB Chain in 3rd and 4th place with 84,000 and 80,000 UAWs respectively, while Wax in first place is well ahead with 314,000 UAWs.
“Polygon, a blockchain previously known for DeFi DApps, overtook Hive this month and secured the second spot. This is a positive sign for Polygon, as it is now gaining recognition as a gaming blockchain,” the report reads.
According to DappRadar data, most of Рolygon’s UAW increase came from BoomLand’s Hunters on-chain game, which saw an UAW increase of over 17,000% in the last 30 days alone.
Launched in January, Hunters On-Chain is a web3 adaptation of BoomLand’s mobile game Hunt Royale. It’s a free-to-play role-playing game with non-fungible token (NFT) integration and a look and style similar to Minecraft. On March 9, the game set its UAW number at a record high of about 55,300. It’s unclear exactly what caused the surge in interest in the game this past month, although expectations for an in-game NFT sale on March 31st may have played a role.
Looking more broadly, the report noted that all “on-chain gaming activity decreased by 3.33% in March to 741,567 daily Unique Active Wallets (dUAW); still, games make up 45.6% of the DApp industry activity in Q1 2023.”
