Hong Kong Police Introduces CyberDefender Platform for Metaverse Crime Prevention
The Hong Kong Police Force‘s cybersecurity unit has launched CyberDefender, a new platform within the metaverse, aimed at raising awareness about potential risks associated with Web3 and the metaverse.
In a statement released on May 27, the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) introduced the CyberDefender platform to equip the public with the necessary knowledge to navigate the challenges of the digital age, specifically focusing on preventing technology-related crimes.
Coinciding with the platform’s launch, an event titled “Exploring the Metaverse” took place in three virtual venues, providing a platform for discussions on strategies for preventing crime within the metaverse.
During the event, Chief Inspector Ip Cheuk-yu of the CSTCB stressed the importance of exercising caution while engaging in the metaverse. He urged participants to maintain the same level of vigilance they practice when using the internet, emphasizing that all types of cybercrime can occur in the metaverse.
Chief Inspector Ip also highlighted the potential risks of asset theft due to the decentralized nature of the metaverse.
