On Wednesday, the Celo Foundation made an exciting announcement stating that Google Cloud, Google’s computing cloud service, has joined the Celo network as a validator. This collaboration brings Google Cloud alongside other ecosystem contributors, including Deutsche Telekom, to further strengthen the security and verification of new transactions on the Celo blockchain.

This move by Google Cloud Joins Celo Network. In the past, the two entities have collaborated on several initiatives, including providing workshops and cloud computing services to developers and Web3 founders building on the Celo network.
The Celo network has recently approved a proposal to transition from its independent blockchain to an Ethereum layer-2 solution. This migration aims to simplify liquidity sharing between the Celo network and Ethereum while bolstering overall security.
To facilitate and accelerate this transition, cLabs, the team behind Celo, will utilize Google Cloud’s Blockchain Node Engine, a fully managed node-hosting service. By using this engine, node operations for Celo participants will become more efficient, as it will relay transactions without waiting for nodes to sync.
