Ghiblification Frenzy Cripples OpenAI Servers: ChatGPT Struggles to Meet Demand!
Rate constraints were put in place by ChatGPT’s developers, OpenAI, following a social media trend in which nearly everything was “Ghiblified“—converted into AI art in the style of the well-known Japanese animation studio. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was among the first to follow the trend, sharing a model-generated photo of himself on March 25. However, two days later, Altman claimed that the infrastructure of the company was starting to feel the strain of all image requests.

It’s super fun seeing people love images in ChatGPT but our GPUs are melting. We are going to temporarily introduce some rate limits while we work on making it more efficient. Also, we are refusing some generations that should be allowed; we are fixing these as fast we can,

Ghibli-Style AI Art Takes Over Social Media: Even Elon Musk Joins In!

Users have been splattering photos on social media in the style of Studio Ghibli, which is well-known for its anime films Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro, since OpenAI’s March 25 debut of ChatGPT-4o‘s improved image-generating feature. Moreover, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and X, posted a picture of himself holding up a Shiba Inu in a manner reminiscent of King Mufasa from Disney’s The Lion King. David Sacks, the White House AI and crypto czar, also participated by applying the Studio Ghibli aesthetic to a photo of himself at a function.
Altman provided no clear timeframe for the duration of the rate limitations. In general, rate limitations are used to assist OpenAI in controlling the overall load on its infrastructure, the company claims.
Hopefully, it won’t be long! ChatGPT free tier will get three generations per day soon.
