Crypto News- In a groundbreaking move aimed at rectifying the financial fallout suffered by individuals and businesses in the wake of FTX’s catastrophic collapse, the embattled crypto exchange has agreed to part ways with its 29.4 million shares of AI innovator Anthropic. This development, disclosed in court filings submitted on Friday, underscores a pivotal step towards restitution, with the combined value of the Anthropic shares standing at a staggering $884,109,327.

The green light for this transaction came from U.S. Federal Judge John Dorsey, who gave his nod last month for the sale to proceed within the confines of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware.

According to the court documents, the purchasing consortium boasts a diverse array of entities, including the ATIC Third International Investment Company, Jane Street Global Trading, and investment funds managed by Fidelity Management & Research Company. Leading the pack is the ATIC Third International Investment Company, securing 16,664,167 shares for a hefty $500 million.

Notable buyers also include The Ford Foundation and Picton Mahoney Asset Management, while Anthropic itself has thrown its hat into the ring, alongside over 20 other entities, signaling a potential bid to reclaim its own shares.

Consortium Acquires 1.6 Million Anthropic Shares Valued at 47.8 Million Dollars Each Amid Speculation Over FTX’s Stake Offload

Among the entities involved in the acquisition of Anthropic shares are MW LSVC Anthropic, LLC, Anthropic Pine Road LLC, Hiive Anthropic Series I and II (both series of Hiive Anthropic, LLC), and ID Fund—Anthropic Series of ID Funds 3 LLC. This consortium secured 1.6 million shares valued at $47.8 million each. Speculation surrounding the timing of FTX’s move to offload its $500 million stake in Anthropic began circulating last summer, following court approval granted to FTX to divest some of its assets for creditor repayment, with January earmarked as a potential timeline.

However, uncertainty loomed when reports surfaced indicating FTX’s intention to unload its shares in the rival of OpenAI. Later that same month, FTX abruptly halted the sale of these shares without prior notice.

FTX’s asset liquidation spree also included the sale of derivatives trading platform LedgerX for $50 million, marking a significant loss compared to the $300 million initially paid for it in 2021. Additionally, FTX offloaded $3.4 billion in Solana, Ethereum, and Bitcoin assets.
