Franklin Templeton Joins the Race for an XRP ETF with New SEC Filing

Global investment powerhouse Franklin Templeton has officially entered the competition to launch an XRP exchange-traded fund (ETF), joining a growing list of financial firms seeking to bring XRP investment products to the market.

According to a filing submitted on Tuesday, the proposed Franklin XRP ETF aims to track the spot price of XRP, minus associated fees, with assets securely held by Coinbase Custody. Shares of the fund will be listed on the Cboe BZX Exchange, and creation/redemption will occur in large blocks through cash transactions, converted to XRP via a third-party intermediary. Notably, shareholders will not be eligible for benefits from potential XRP Ledger forks or airdrops.

As this is a preliminary filing, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has up to 240 days—potentially until late 2025—to approve or reject the proposal. Franklin Templeton joins Bitwise, 21Shares, and other firms betting on a more crypto-friendly regulatory environment in the near future.

Meanwhile, XRP has surged 4.2% in the past 24 hours, mirroring a broader cryptocurrency market recovery.
