File Hosting Service Dropbox Offers A New 15 Terabyte Plan Due To Crypto Mining

A metered storage strategy that provides new customers with a set allocation of 15 terabytes will replace this arrangement. The business provided examples of consumers using thousands of times more storage than their actual business clients, resulting in inconsistent consumption levels. The action taken by Dropbox is consistent with changes made to their storage policy by IT heavyweights Microsoft and Google.

A growing number of customers were buying Advanced subscriptions not to run a business or organization, but instead for purposes like crypto and Chia mining.

Dropbox Moves to a Fairer Model for All Users

In order to provide a more fair and dependable experience for all customers, Dropbox has switched to a capped model due to abuse of the unlimited storage privilege. While the business accepted that there might be valid situations requiring a lot of data, misuse has increased, with people reselling capacity and sharing it with unrelated customers for their own benefit. Dropbox used metered storage because it was judged impracticable to impose acceptable-use limitations.

With at least 30 days’ notice, current Advanced plan users will progressively transition to the revised plan. On a month-to-month basis, storage add-ons will cost $10 per month for 1TB and $8 per month on an annual plan beginning on September 18.
