The community is warning others to be on the lookout after reports of scam sites and scams offering Arbitrum airdrop tokens.
Crypto Community Warns About Fake Arbitrum Airdrops
It seems that Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution Arbitrum’s upcoming “ARB” token airdrop is a very a popular target for scammers. Crypto community is alerting to hundreds of scams to trick cryptocurrency users.
As announced in a March 16th post by the Arbitrum Foundation, the airdrop will ship 10 billion governance tokens via token airdrops, allowing holders to vote on code changes. The airdrop is scheduled for March 23rd. However, this development has led to numerous attempts by scammers to organize fake Arbitrum airdrops in order to steal funds from victims before the official event.
In a March 19 post, blockchain security firm Redefine said it had discovered a website masquerading as Arbitrum’s official airdrop website. The screenshot shows the website asking the user to authorize access to the funds. Another blockchain security firm, CertiK, has pointed out that her fake Arbitrum Twitter account “arbitrum_launch” is promoting token airdrops. It warns the user not to operate.
According to u/CryptoMaximalist, they discovered fake Arbitrum Twitter profiles with links to fake Arbitrum websites and advised everyone to check user’s profile and history and check if they are spamming links on many subreddits before clicking shared links. Since announcing the token airdrop last week, Web3’s anti-scam tool, Scam Sniffer, has already detected over 273 Arbitrum-related phishing sites, until the official drop on March 23rd. According to the announcement, this number is expected to increase.
