Nayib Bukele Highlights El Salvador Bitcoin Holdings at All-Time High

President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador revealed that the country’s Bitcoin assets are worth over $600 million. President Nayib Bukele shared a screenshot on X, highlighting the notable rise in the Bitcoin portfolio that coincided with the cryptocurrency’s first-ever $100,000 milestone.

After making an initial investment of about $269.7 million in Bitcoin, El Salvador is currently valued at over $603 million, with an unrealized profit of more than $333 million. El Salvador presently has close to 6,000 Bitcoin ownerships, according to Arkham Intelligence.

Bitcoin, which is currently trading at $99,367, surged in value after Donald Trump won the most recent US election. Bitcoin’s surge was fueled by the excitement in the cryptocurrency market following the president-elect’s announcement that he will name a Bitcoin supporter to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission. Trump’s nomination of Paul Atkins to lead the SEC was viewed as a positive move for the regulation of cryptocurrencies. Due to a surge in capital into Bitcoin-backed exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the US, Bitcoin has increased by roughly 45% since Trump’s election victory.
