New Development In Damus And Apple Friction Damus To Remain In App Store, But The Feature Removed

The Apple-Damus tension that started about 2 weeks ago has finally been resolved.

New Development in Damus and Apple Friction: Damus to Remain in App Store, but the Feature Removed

On June 13, Apple issued a warning to Damus, a decentralized social media platform, stating that it risked removal from the App Store if it continued to enable the acceptance of zaps, or tips made using Bitcoin’s Lightning Network, on content uploads in order to get around Apple Pay.

Damus needs to make some adjustments to adhere to Apple’s stringent in-app purchase regulations. Users of Damus can still conduct peer-to-peer transfers using zaps at the profile level. However, Apple no longer supports zaps on posts; hence, this feature has been removed from the most recent version of the application. Damus App founder William Casarin expressed his thoughts on the issue on his Twitter account.

Bitcoiners Criticize Apple

Prominent members of the Bitcoin community, including the former CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, who contributed $5 million to the creation of the Damus system, criticized Apple’s first decision to withdraw the Damus app from the AppStore. Earlier this week, Dorsey tweeted.

The widespread acceptance of Bitcoin-friendly apps in the App Store, according to several members of the Bitcoin community, is hampered by Apple’s strict guidelines. However, Apple insists that all apps are held to the same standards and are not given any preferential treatment.

I don’t know how Fountain is allowed at all considering their whole app is content tipping with Bitcoin. Now I’m back on but the app is a lot worse than it was before. We still have censorship-resistant speech I guess, hopefully, Apple doesn’t ban that too.
