Social Media Giant X Platform Unveils ‘AI Audience’ Feature, Revolutionizing Advertising Targeting
Social media platform X has unveiled a groundbreaking feature set to revolutionize advertising strategies. Aptly named “AI Audience,” this innovation empowers advertisers to delineate target audiences while leveraging X’s AI to swiftly generate pertinent user pools.
Announced via the platform’s business account on May 10, the forthcoming “AI Audience” feature promises advertisers the ability to succinctly outline their desired audience parameters for a given ad. Subsequently, X’s AI infrastructure swiftly sifts through its vast user base, curating a selection of “the most relevant X users” tailored to the specified criteria within seconds.
Illustrating this functionality, a hypothetical scenario was presented wherein an advertiser inputs their target audience as “Technology Leaders” with the descriptor “users who are leaders in technology.” In a matter of moments, the AI algorithm compiles a comprehensive list featuring hundreds of users fitting the target demographic, accompanied by pertinent demographic statistics.

The announcement garnered attention beyond the platform, with X’s owner, Elon Musk, echoing the news through a repost devoid of additional commentary.
In response, one user lauded the development as a potential game-changer for advertising efficacy on the platform, praising its perceived value proposition. However, concerns lingered regarding the AI’s efficacy in accurately pinpointing target audiences, potentially exacerbating biases and stereotypes.
Critics also questioned the underlying motive behind X’s endeavors, expressing apprehension about the platform’s pivot towards facilitating targeted advertising, seemingly at the expense of user privacy and autonomy.
Despite these reservations, many users expressed enthusiasm for the innovation, hailing it as a testament to X’s forward-thinking approach.
This unveiling occurs amidst Musk’s proactive pursuit of AI integration within the platform’s framework. Notably, on March 26, Musk announced the accessibility of X’s proprietary AI model, Grok, to premium subscribers. Subsequently, on March 29, an upgraded iteration, Grok-1.5, boasting enhanced reasoning capabilities and an expanded context length of 128,000 tokens, was introduced.
Amid ongoing legal proceedings between Musk and OpenAI, a former affiliate, Musk announced on March 11 his intention to open-source Grok, underscoring his commitment to democratizing AI technologies.
Although Musk’s AI venture, xAI, has been instrumental in pioneering accessible AI tools, reports alleging substantial investment influx remain unverified, with Musk refuting claims of securing $500 million out of a purported $1 billion investment objective in January.
