Crypto News – According to the most recent information out of Montenegro, Do Kwon, the co-founder of Terraform Labs, will shortly be returned to the United States to face fraud-related charges. Since March 2023, the co-founder of Terra has been detained in Montenegro.
The Extradition of Do Kwon to the United States is about to Happen
The plea to extradite Kwon to South Korea before the US was denied by the High Court of Podgorica was published by the Montenegrin news portal Pobjeda on Wednesday, February 21. This is in spite of claims made by Kwon’s legal team that the Justice Minister of Montenegro has the last say over decisions pertaining to extradition.
Details of Kwon’s Extradition are Not Yet Clear
Authorities from South Korea and the United States have been fighting about who has jurisdiction over Kwon’s alleged fraud from his time at Terraform. The US Attorney’s Office quickly filed eight criminal charges against Kwon after his arrest in Montenegro.
It’s still unclear when Kwon will be extradited, though. Kwon’s location was unknown when Terra collapsed in May 2022. He was apprehended in March 2023 on suspicion of using fake travel tickets. He was sentenced to four months in prison in June for document falsification by a Montenegrin court. Kwon tried to overturn the original ruling but was unsuccessful, which meant that his four-month jail sentence was upheld.
