Sassaman or Satoshi?- the Memecoin Phenomenon Linked to Bitcoin’s Possible Creator
Sassaman or Satoshi?– suspense surrounding the identity of Bitcoin’s (BTC) creator, set to be unveiled in an upcoming HBO documentary, has ignited buzz in the crypto community. Amid this drama, some traders are capitalizing on the moment by investing in memecoins linked to cryptographer Len Sassaman, whom Polymarket bettors speculate may be revealed as the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto.
In the past week, several LEN tokens have emerged on the Solana and Ethereum networks, driven by opportunistic traders. These tokens briefly reached a market capitalization of several million before retracing some gains. A LEN token launched over four months ago on Solana also experienced a price surge, now boasting a market cap of over $1.6 million.
Interestingly, Sassaman’s cat, Sasha, has also become a subject of interest, inspiring the creation of additional memecoins. Other community members reference another cat, ODIN, which Sassaman’s wife, Meredith L. Patterson, mentioned on her blog. SASHA tokens on both Ethereum and Solana have seen market capitalizations exceeding $5 million in the past week. Crypto enthusiasts have even reached out to Patterson on X, seeking insights about these tokens, and she has responded with a Solana address for donations.
Memecoins often arise from internet culture, celebrating memes that resonate with communities. The ease of issuing tokens through smart contracts on blockchains like BSC means that anyone can create and trade them almost instantly, fostering a vibrant trading ecosystem. Some in the community believe that tokens inspired by Sassaman or his cats may represent an undervalued market opportunity.
As crypto user @ariesyuangga pointed out on X, But I know if HBO releases a documenter and tells everyone that @lensassaman is satoshi, then every crypto mfers and every big media will say/write its name and talk about him. Another user, @dametime_tradez, noted, If Len Sassaman is named as Satoshi Nakamoto this cat is going to fly.
The HBO documentary, titled Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, is set to air on October 8. As of Monday, Sassaman leads the Polymarket odds with a 35% likelihood, followed by Hal Finney and Adam Back in the running.
