Crypto News– Kroma Mainnet by Lightscale, a subsidiary of Wemade, has achieved a significant milestone with the successful launch of Kroma Mainnet. This Ethereum Layer 2 solution is specifically designed to address the blockchain trilemma, which encompasses the challenges of scalability, speed, and high transaction fees that have been plaguing Ethereum’s Layer 1. Through the integration of optimistic rollup and Zero-Knowledge (ZK) proof technologies, Kroma is ushering in a new era for Layer 2 solutions.
Kroma Mainnet by Lightscale, Brings Ethereum’s Full ZK Rollup Layer 2 Solution to the Forefront
Ethereum’s Layer 1 has encountered mounting difficulties as more services and applications continue to join the network. Transaction speeds have slowed, scalability limitations have become apparent, and gas fees have soared to unprecedented levels. This predicament, often referred to as the blockchain trilemma, has posed a formidable barrier to the widespread adoption of blockchain technology.
Kroma Mainnet employs an innovative approach by combining the strengths of optimistic rollup, which is already in widespread use, with the efficiency of ZK rollup for fault tolerance. While optimistic rollup is less complex from a technical standpoint, ZK rollup offers rapid block finality. Lightscale has also outlined its intentions to evolve Kroma into a 100% ZK rollup architecture, further elevating its capabilities.
Kroma is poised to introduce its native token, KRO, by mid-2024. The tokenomics of KRO are engineered to incentivize active participation within the ecosystem. Unlike many tokens, there will be no pre-minting or pre-mining of KRO. Blocks will be generated every two seconds, and KRO tokens will be minted and distributed as rewards to users and decentralized applications (dApps). Users and dApps generating more transactions will receive proportionally more tokens, fostering a virtuous cycle of ecosystem growth.
kroma’s Emphasis on Integrating Games
Initially, Kroma will focus on game-onboarding, with Night Crows being one of the first games to be featured on the platform. The global blockchain version of this popular MMORPG, published by Wemade, is slated for release in December. However, Lightscale has broader ambitions in mind. The plan is to expand the Kroma ecosystem to encompass other Web3 functionalities, including Decentralized Finance (DeFi) and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). A portion of Kroma’s Ecosystem Fund will be allocated to incentivize dApps to become part of its expanding ecosystem.
To foster community engagement, 10% of KRO tokens will be distributed to the WEMIX community through various mechanisms, including rewards for WEMIX stakers. This strategy is designed to contribute to the expansion of the WEMIX ecosystem.
ZK Rollups not only enhance scalability but also offer robust security features. Through the use of cryptographic proofs, ZK Rollups ensure the legitimacy of all transactions without revealing sensitive information, resulting in high-security levels and resistance to fraud. Additionally, ZK Rollups can significantly boost the Transactions Per Second (TPS), allowing for the processing of more transactions in less time.
