Crypto News– According to a ruling by Judge James Mellor in the United Kingdom on March 14, reported by BitMEX Research, Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of the Bitcoin network.
Judge Determines Craig Wright is Not the Real Satoshi Nakamoto
The lawsuit, initiated by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), began closing arguments in London on March 12. COPA aimed to obtain injunctive relief to prevent Wright from continuing to claim he was Nakamoto. Wright, an Australian computer scientist, has asserted his identity as Nakamoto since 2016.
Accused of extensive document forgery to support his claim, Wright faced strong criticism from COPA. In their closing submission, COPA stated, ‘Dr. Wright has been shown to have lied on an extraordinary scale… He has invented an entire biographical history, producing one tranche after another of forged documents to support it.’
Established in 2020, COPA’s mission is to promote cryptocurrency technology adoption and innovation by removing patents as barriers. Its members include Coinbase, Block, Meta, MicroStrategy, Kraken, Paradigm, Uniswap, and Worldcoin.
In 2023, Wright filed a lawsuit against 13 Bitcoin Core developers and several companies, including Blockstream, Coinbase, and Block, alleging copyright infringements related to the Bitcoin white paper, file format, and database rights of the Bitcoin blockchain.
Responding to the lawsuit, the Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund highlighted the pattern of abusive lawsuits targeting prominent contributors in the Bitcoin community. These lawsuits, though deemed frivolous, have been effective in deterring developers due to the associated time, stress, financial burden, and legal risk.
