Hamster Kombat’s Struggles: Paws Mini App Dominates Telegram
Hamster Kombat– Once a dominant force in the world of Telegram-based tap-to-earn games, Hamster Kombat has experienced a dramatic drop in both user engagement and token value. Originally boasting a massive user base of 300 million players in August, the game now struggles with only 41 million active users as of November 5 — marking a staggering 86% decrease in its user base.
Meanwhile, a new competitor, Paws, has quickly overtaken Hamster Kombat in popularity. In just eight days, the newly launched Paws Mini App reached 20.5 million users, surpassing Hamster Kombat’s earlier growth trajectory. The stark contrast between the two platforms’ fortunes highlights the volatility and intense competition in the rapidly evolving world of crypto gaming on Telegram.
Declining Engagement and Falling Token Price
Hamster Kombat’s struggles are clearly reflected in its HMSTR token price, which has plummeted by nearly 70% since its peak. On September 26, the token hit an all-time high of $0.01, but by November 4, it had dropped to just $0.0022. This significant decline is in line with a decrease in user activity. According to data from IntoTheBlock (ITB), the number of active addresses associated with Hamster Kombat has fallen by over 36% in the past week alone. On September 27, the game saw 772,330 active addresses, but this number has steadily declined, signaling a shift in interest and participation.
In terms of network engagement, the game’s active address ratio (AAR) — the percentage of addresses actively participating compared to the total number of HMSTR holders — has hit a 30-day low of just 0.34%. This shows a significant drop in user interaction. Despite this, the total number of HMSTR holders has continued to rise, with 3.5 million holders recorded on November 4, indicating that many users still hold the token but are not actively participating.
Paws Outpaces Hamster Kombat Amidst Growing Scrutiny
While Hamster Kombat faces growing challenges, including criticism from Iranian government officials and rumors of a ban in Uzbekistan, its competitor, Paws, has seen explosive growth. Paws Mini App has been embraced by Telegram users at an unprecedented pace. In just the first two days of its launch, Paws gained over 11 million users, and by November 4, it had connected 10 million wallets. Additionally, the project’s X (formerly Twitter) account has amassed 1 million followers.
This rapid rise in popularity stands in stark contrast to the declining user base of Hamster Kombat. The success of Paws is attributed to several factors, including the backing of key figures and strategic gameplay mechanics that have resonated with the Telegram audience. The project is now drawing comparisons to other successful Telegram-based games and is positioning itself for sustained growth.
Despite the decline in Hamster Kombat’s market position, the game’s development team has remained optimistic. They previously shared plans for future growth, including integrating payment systems, launching new games, and incorporating NFTs as in-game assets. These features could help reinvigorate user interest and attract new players, though their success remains to be seen.
