In a notable shift, Google searches for the term ‘Solana’ surpassed ‘Ethereum’ for the first time in 2023, reflecting increased trader curiosity about developments within the Solana ecosystem.
Google Users Show Greater Interest in Solana Than Ethereum
Despite Ethereum maintaining a substantial lead in search interest for most of the year, the dynamics changed from December 17 to December 23. During this period, Solana’s search interest scored 56 compared to Ethereum’s 50, according to Google Trends data. The forecast suggests that the search term ‘Solana’ is poised to reach a perfect score of 100 in search interest from December 24 to December 30, indicating ‘peak popularity for the term.’
The data further revealed that Solana garnered more search interest than Ethereum in certain countries, including Spain and the Philippines. However, Ethereum retained dominance in search interest in countries such as Indonesia, Taiwan, Morocco, and others.
Additionally, the data highlighted intriguing trends among users searching for Solana. Notably, users exploring Solana also expressed interest in terms like ‘bonk’ and ‘tensor.’ ‘Bonk’ refers to a dog-themed memecoin that outpaced Pepecoin (PEPE) in market capitalization on December 8, following a remarkable 370% monthly gain. On the other hand, ‘Tensor‘ is a Solana-based nonfungible token marketplace that produced the NFT collection ‘Tensorians,’ demonstrating substantial gains over the last 30 days.
