Crypto News– Google has unveiled plans to establish a support fund of 25 million euros ($26.9 million) aimed at facilitating skill training for individuals across Europe in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI).
Google Announces 25 Million Euro Investment in AI Skills Development Across Europe
The AI Opportunity Initiative for Europe seeks to offer training opportunities to enable individuals to capitalize on the potential of AI, especially at a time when the continent stands poised to take a leading role in leveraging AI for economic growth.
“We aspire to contribute to the empowerment of Europe’s workforce, assisting individuals through transitional periods so that everyone can reap the benefits,” stated Google.
This initiative is being developed in collaboration with European Union governments, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and businesses, with a focus on providing advanced AI training to local startups, particularly emphasizing support for vulnerable communities.
Approximately 10 million euros of the fund will be allocated to equip workers with the necessary skills to avoid being marginalized by technological advancements. A similar initiative was initiated by the Italian government in mid-2023, allocating significant funding toward the enhancement of digital skills for workers vulnerable to displacement due to automation and AI.
Google noted that this AI program builds upon the success of its previous initiative, “Grow with Google,” launched in 2015, which provided free training to bridge the digital skills gap in the EU, benefiting over 12 million individuals. The new initiative also includes a partnership with the Centre for Public Impact (CPI), inviting applications from EU-based social enterprises and nonprofits to expand AI training access.
Adrian Brown, the executive director of CPI, highlighted AI’s potential to revolutionize the world while cautioning against widening inequality gaps. He expressed optimism that the program would empower individuals across Europe, fostering knowledge, skills, and confidence in AI to ensure inclusivity and equity.
