Changpeng Zhao, renowned as the former CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, took to social media platform X to tantalize followers with news of an upcoming venture. Stressing its educational aspect and confirming the exclusion of new tokens, Zhao assured his audience of forthcoming elaboration.
Zhao’s departure from Binance transpired in November 2023 as part of a plea agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice. Under the terms, Zhao acknowledged guilt concerning charges linked to violations of the Bank Secrecy Act and consented to a $50 million fine. Mandated by the Act, businesses are obligated to aid governmental efforts in thwarting money laundering and other financial transgressions.
Despite his exit from Binance, Zhao’s personal fortune witnessed a staggering surge of nearly $25 billion over the past year.
Binance remains the unrivaled leader in crypto exchange spot volume. Recent data from The Block‘s Data Dashboard illustrates Binance’s commanding position, with its March 18 figures contributing $727.46 billion, or 46%, to this month’s total spot market volume, totaling $1.57 trillion.
